How to Get Your Licence — Step by Step

Step 1

Complete Hunter Education

Take the Alberta Conservation & Hunter Education course through AHEIA. Receive your certificate number.

Step 2

Get Your WiN

Activate your Wildlife Identification Number online or at a licence issuer. Costs $8 + GST and never expires.

Step 3

Buy a Wildlife Certificate

Purchase a Wildlife Certificate ($30) — required before buying any species licence.

Step 4

Buy Species Licences

Purchase licences for the specific species you want to hunt. Apply for draws for limited-entry species.

Non-Resident Hunting in Alberta

Non-residents pay significantly higher fees and must have an approved hunter education certificate. Some species (elk, moose, sheep) are draw-only for non-residents. A Wildlife Certificate is required in addition to species licences.
